When COVID-19 closed schools in March 2020, the Child Nutrition staff at Farmington School District, led by Mrs. Wendy Burrus, quickly developed a plan to continue feeding students breakfast and lunch. Meals were prepared and delivered to students each week for the remainder of the school year. With Farmington Schools having five separate campuses and a broad area to deliver meals to, it was a logistical challenge. With the help of her staff and other volunteers and groups within the school system, we were able to pull it all together.

Since the return to on-site instruction, Farmington has faced fluctuating COVID numbers that have sometimes led to short term closures. Our latest closure happened on January 20, 2022, for two days. Due to a high number of COVID cases and quarantines among staff and students as well as a substitute shortage the district had to modify operations. Once again, Mrs. Burrus worked quickly to devise a plan to prepare meals and offer curbside pickup for the families in our school district.

Along with most other schools, the Farmington School District has faced many unforeseen obstacles over the past couple of years. Throughout it all, Mrs. Burrus has gone above and beyond to ensure that our children in the Farmington community have been fed. She has met our mission of positively impacting the educational experience…our students are worth it!
